Alissa Sommerfeldt is Teaching & Learning Innovation’s communications specialist. In her role, Sommerfeldt is responsible for developing and managing the marketing/communication strategies on behalf of the unit. Some of her duties include creating digital and print communications, managing the TLI-associated websites and social media accounts, and collaborating with UT’s Office of Communications & Marketing to promote TLI initiatives through campus media.
Sommerfeldt graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Public Relations in May 2017 from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. Sommerfeldt has experience in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors, including a corporate communications internship with Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, Illinois and a PR/development internship with the Murray State Alumni Association.
After finding her niché in higher education PR, Sommerfeldt moved to Volunteer country in June 2017 to join the Teaching & Learning Innovation team. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Communication & Information, with a PR concentration, in UT Knoxville’s College of Communication & Information.
