Faculty Consultant for Innovative Teaching
Igor Akpovo, Ph.D. serves as a Faculty Consultant for Innovative Teaching. In this role, he provides individual and small group training to faculty and graduate students on the use of educational technology, instructional design principles, and evidence-based pedagogy to enhance student learning and engagement. He also supports TLI’s broader mission of offering faculty and graduate student professional development opportunities.
Akpovo has more than a decade of experience working in higher education as an instructional designer and lecturer, teaching graduate level courses in education and English as a second language. In addition to a BA and MA in EFL/ESL from the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin, Igor holds an MA in TESOL from Oklahoma City University where he was a Fulbright scholar. He completed his Ph.D. in Education, with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction, at the University of Wyoming.
Most recently, he has worked as an Instructional Design Specialist at Roane State Community College where he assisted with the administration of the college’s learning management system, worked directly with faculty, students, and administrators to leverage educational technology to enhance student success and retention, and offered workshops and training on tools and pedagogical strategies, particularly in distance education and accessibility.
