Advancing and Sustaining Innovation in Science Teaching: Using a Collaborative Multidisciplinary Model to Transform Graduate Student Teaching
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been awarded a $399,209 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support an initiative aimed at transforming graduate student teaching.
This project, led by Principal Investigator Dr. Ferlin McGaskey (Teaching and Learning Innovation) in collaboration with Co-Principal Investigators Dr. Kate Jones, Dr. Caroline Wienhold, and Dr. Elisabeth Schussler (Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics), will develop and implement a new professional development model for graduate students.
The innovative approach will integrate teaching and research skill development in a synergistic way, ensuring graduate students are better equipped to excel as both researchers and educators. Aligned with the University of Tennessee’s Principles of Teaching Excellence (PoET), this program will prepare future faculty to foster student learning while advancing knowledge in their respective fields.
