SoTL Finish Line Award

Take your SoTL study to the finish line!

Beginning fall 2024, TLI offers a new flexible program supporting “last mile” work on studies in college-level teaching and learning. If you have already secured IRB approval, collected your data, and maybe begun your analysis, this program is for you!

The program provides funding for those who want to complete their study by writing a manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal article. To complete the program, you’ll write your manuscript across the academic year, and submit it to a peer-reviewed journal of your choice by June 1, 2025. Funding is based on the completion of a series of custom deadlines, or “mile markers,” tailored to your study, and if these mile markers are complete, you will receive $1000 in January 2025, and a further $1000 in June 2025.

Eligibility

This program is available to full-time faculty who are eligible to receive additional pay. When you apply, we will confirm eligibility with your department’s business office. At present, we cannot offer this funded program to graduate students. The situation is also more complex for part-time faculty, so if you are on a part-time appointment, you should contact us and confirm eligibility before applying.

Also, this program is intended to support those entering the “last mile” of their SoTL project, so, at minimum, you will need to have:

  • IRB approval for your study, if necessary
  • Consent process complete, if necessary
  • Data collected and organized

Note: We recognize that not all SoTL publications may require IRB approval or the collection of data from individuals. You’ll have the chance to specify what your project is doing in your application materials.

Structure

This program offers funding on an incremental basis, as you complete a series of “mile markers” to guide your study to successful results. When your proposal is accepted, you will meet with a TLI staff member and other faculty members with accepted proposals, and we will plan individual “mile marker” check-in meetings across the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters.

  • Fall 2024: Mile markers should be set for late September, October, and November.
  • Fall Checkpoint: If all mile markers have been completed by the end of the fall term (the exact date to be selected together), then you will receive the first part of the award, $1,000, in the form of additional pay.
  • Spring 2025: Mile markers should be set in February, March, and April or May.
  • Spring Checkpoint: If all mile markers have been completed and a manuscript submitted to a peer-reviewed journal by June 1, 2025, you will receive the remaining funds, $1,000, in the form of additional pay.

The application period for fall 2024 has ended.
