Designing for Academic Integrity: Task Complexity and Salience

Recent studies show that students are more likely to create original, non-plagiarized work when we ask them to do complex, higher-order thinking tasks— even when GenAI is available. You can apply this in your class, too! For instance:

  1. How can you create assignments that incorporate skills from the top two tiers of Bloom’s Hierarchy?
  2. How can you design your assignments in a way that lets students bring more of their own interests, future goals, or personal voice/creativity to the table?
