One of the challenging aspects of course policies is often deciding when to make an exception—excusing an absence, granting extensions, or allowing revisions. Who deserves it? Who doesn’t? If you make an allowance for one student, how do you ensure it is provided to everyone?
You can remove the stress out of these decisions for everyone by creating a budget system with tokens. Everyone starts with the same number of opportunities for policy exceptions, which they can “spend” whenever the need arises, allowing them to add flexibility to a policy wherever they want.
